Jesus invites us all to let go of spiritual and relational bean-counting and to recognize the crushing burden of indebtedness. Those of us who cling to our systems of transaction and obligation end up condemned by those same accounting systems. If we let go of those systems, we can find deep peace. In all this, however, it is important to understand the true nature of forgiveness in such a way that it isn’t used to allow continued abuse or to force a traumatized person to move too quickly past their pain without processing it. Indeed, it is important to carefully distinguish general debts from outright abuse in discussions about forgiveness.

Stacie riffs on themes from Elizabeth Kübler-Ross and David Kessler on grief as it might apply to the losses experienced when we forgive.

Jeff mentions the tu quoque informal fallacy.
